Ely Foodbank has been announced as Sainsbury's new local charity of the year.
The charity will receive a year’s worth of fund raising and awareness support from the store’s colleagues and customers.
It’s the seventh year of the local charity of the year scheme.
The food bank was voted by customers in store and online with a total of 263 votes.
Cathy Wright, project director from Ely Foodbank said: “We’re absolutely thrilled to be chosen as the Sainsbury’s Ely’s Local Charity of Year. We can’t wait to work together and raise the profile of our charity over the next year. Thank you to all the customers that voted for us, we really appreciate the support”
Ely Foodbank was set up in 2012 and provides three days of emergency food supplies and additional support to local people in crisis.
To celebrate the announcement, a launch day will take place at the store on Friday July 31 and Saturday August 1.
Customers get a chance to learn more about the work they do. The store team will also be fund raising for the new charity by holding a collection at the front of the store.
The scheme has raised more than £7 million to support local charities since 2009.
