ELY youngsters booked in for a sponsored read and raised almost £1,500 between them.

Forty-eight children from King's Junior School took part in the event and prizes for the most sponsorship raised and most hours read during a week were awarded in each age group.

Their efforts raised £1,496, and publishers Usborne, topped up the money with an extra 60 per cent of the sponsorship, making a total of £2,393 which will be spent on new books for the school library.
