Police in Ely have issued a warning to homeowners after a spate of thefts from gardens.

Officers said they had noticed a trend in recent months of thieves targeting items on display in gardens and from unsecured sheds.

In the last month alone, a bench was stolen from a garden in Lower Road, Stuntney, garden gnomes were stolen from a property in Morley Drive, Ely, and vegetables were taken from allotments in Bridge Fen, Ely.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Constabulary said: “We are currently seeing a number of shed burglaries and thefts of garden furniture, planters and other items across all areas of East Cambs.

“Please can we ask you all to be on the lookout for any would be thieves or people and vehicles that make you think ‘what are you up to’ and report them to us on 101 as soon as possible.”
