PARENTS were give a lesson in the benefits of using washable nappies at Ely Library on Thursday.
It is estimated that last year Cambridgeshire County Council spent £182,000 disposing of nappies at landfill, so Cambridgeshire and Peterborough councils have teamed up with Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Real Nappy Network and the Fenland Community Laundry Service for the 11th campaign for real nappies.
This is part of International Real Nappy Week.
The Nappy Network visited a series of venues around Cambridgeshire with parents who use real nappies to give their advice and representatives of the council to answer questions about rubbish and landfill.
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough councils have been successful in encouraging the use of washable cloth nappies through a free-trial scheme, which gives parents the chance to see which nappy out of a wide and modern range suits best their baby.
