More longer term funding for Cambridgeshire was on the agenda at a meeting between a parliamentary hopeful and the Secretary of State for Education Nicky Morgan this week.

Lucy Frazer, the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for South East Cambridgeshire, says she is campaigning for a “fairer” funding formula for schools in the area.

Cambridgeshire schools have received an extra £23.2 million in Government funding but their funding per pupil is still well below the national average.

She said: “In the last few months I have visited seven schools and the issue head teachers constantly raise is the one of funding. As a parent and a school governor I know that education can transform lives.

“I will be continuing to campaign for a fairer funding formula in the long term to ensure our schools get more funds to make sure that the children in our area get the best possible start in life.”

In January, the heads of the state secondary schools in the constituency will meet the Secretary of State so they can explain first hand why they feel long term funding needs to be increased.
