The Soham World War One Centenary Commemoration Committee has been recognised for its contribution to local history.
The group received an award from chairman of the Cambridgeshire Association for Local History, Mike Petty, at the town’s memorial plaque last week for its work in writing ‘Soham and The Great War.’
The book took over a year to produce with personal visits to relatives of the fallen, trips to the cemeteries in Europe concerned and archive research on the town during the war years.
Chairman of Soham Heritage and main writer, Charles Warner, said: “It is so wonderful and utterly unexpected to have received this award from this auspicious committee.”
Copies of ‘Soham and The Great War’ can be found at Soham Books, High Street, Soham and at the Soham Winter Fayre on Friday (November 24).
The committee is not selling the books but is asking for a donation of a minimum of £5, with proceeds going to the Soham branch of the Royal British Legion.
