A group of ten adventure-seeking students from Soham Village College are almost ready to embark on a trip of a lifetime.

The students are set to take off and spend three weeks in Laos and Cambodia, where they will play their part in reintroducing key species to a forest severely hit by illegal logging in Dong Natad.

The students will also help to oversee the reintroduction of native Siamese crocodiles in nearby Tansoum, before carrying out basic construction and educational work in the village’s primary schools.

The adventurers have also received a boost in the form of £2,000 from Border Farm Timber, as well as the donation of products from Corker’s Crisps and Barcham Trees.

Bessie Owen, head of year 11 and one of the trip leaders, said the group can’t wait to get going.

“I am a real advocate of broadening horizons,” she said. “I believe stepping out of one’s comfort zone offers amazing experiences.

“It is fantastic that the students have been given this opportunity to experience another culture and help support a developing community.”
