Preparations for this year’s Soham Village College Prom are well underway, but there’s a major difference this year says deputy head girl Jamie-Paige Tucker.

“As you are all aware the prom is an annual event for Soham Village College. However this year, the college has decided to change the venue.

“The Senior Team, comprised of 10 Year 11 students, worked very hard to secure the use of a much nicer location for the prom this year and are very proud of all that they have achieved.

“As of this year the school is trying to hold the prom in the ‘Performing Arts Centre’ (also known as the PAC) which means the vehicle system is not the same as it has been in previous years.

“The vehicles will be using the College’s Beechurst entrance (on Sand Street) meaning that all spectators will be in the Beechurst car park, opposed to the usual viewing area in Lodeside.

“This means students have a bigger area for family and friends to watch from and it also saves money as the space is more enclosed.

“However this does mean there may be some congestion along Sand Street on July 1 2016 between approximately 6pn and 8pm.

“We are aware this may cause some inconvenience, so we are trying to give as much warning as possible.

“Everyone at Soham Village College supports the change of location and there will be staff on-site managing the traffic as best as possible to reduce congestion.

“On behalf of the college we are also very happy with the amount of local support we have had for this year’s prom.

“We would firstly like to thank ‘A Special Event’, who is based on Broad Street, Ely for the generous discounts they have offered us on decorations for our prom.

“They are very helpful and we cannot thank them enough for all that they have done.

“As a school we are proud to say we worked with the company and would highly recommend them to anyone planning events.

“We’d also like to thank Jo’s Pantry from Newmarket for providing us with food for the evening and being a huge help with arrangements.

“Again we would recommend them to anyone looking for caterers for an event.

“Lastly, we would also like to thank Soham Asda for their donations of supplies and products which have been of huge help to our fundraising.

“They have been very supportive and flexible to our needs and we would like to thank them for their kind contributions.

“If anyone would like any further details about the prom please do not hesitate to contact jptucker7496@sohamcollege.org.uk and a member of Senior Team will get back to you as soon as possible.”
