Secretary Mrs Long welcomed everyone to the meeting on Friday. Jerusalem was sung, followed by the business of the meeting, which included the proposed increase of £4 on the yearly subscription in 2007. The speaker for the evening was Geoffrey Heathcock from the RNLI who was welcomed to the meeting. Geoffrey is a volunteer with the RNLI and has been for many years. He is also a councillor and a funeral director. Geoffrey began his talk with the history of the RNLI before going on to show slides of many of the lifeboats and talking about their history and conditions they often have to endure when going out on a rescue. Following his talk, members were invited to ask questions.
Gwen Bridgeman thanked him on behalf of the members and invited him to judge an exhibition for a holiday postcard. The winner was Ann Gibbs with Jenny Langley in second place. Refreshments were served followed by the raffle. The forthcoming visit with the Earle Soham WI in July was discussed and the coach fares were collected by the treasurer Jenny Langley. The speaker for the next meeting on July 7 will be Alan Maskell who will talk about the work of Blue Cross.
