Four kids, three jobs and 183 miles of running, Soham’s real life Wonder Woman has raised thousands for a meningitis charity.
Beth Green, 37, who also chairs Soham Action for Youth, decided she would raise funds for Meningitis Now, after her best friend’s daughter, Amelie, died from the disease in 2008 aged just three.
Beth decided to do something “epic” for the charity which funds research into the disease and supports victims and their families.
A passionate runner, the mother of four originally planned on finishing three marathons and three half-marathons, and hoped to raise £1,000.
In the end she ran three full marathons and 8 half marathons, raising £2,100.
Beth said: “I started with six runs, but I could not stop, did not want to stop for Amelie.
“My friends call me Wonder Woman, but it’s easy when my family and friends are so supportive and it’s for such a good cause.”
Soham’s Townsperson of the Year has already booked in to do the Cambridge half marathon in March and the London Marathon in April for the charity.
Best friend Sally, who organised friends and family to meet Beth at the end of her last finishing line, all donning Beth face masks, said: “After all Beth’s done we had to do something to show our appreciation.
“We thought wearing the ‘Beth Masks’ would be a great, fun way to show it and an image that will stay with Beth forever.”
Sally and her husband Kevin have smashed their originally target of raising £10,000 for meningitis research and, along with Beth’s help, hope to continue to raise more funds.
Sally said: “If we can help Meningitis Now prevent other families losing a loved one to meningitis, I can think of no other cause more worthy.
