A great-grandmother who worked for most of her life at a Soham pub celebrated her 106th birthday with friends and relatives on Tuesday.

Lucy Pollard, whose father owned the White Hart, celebrated her birthday at her home at the Hilton Park Care Centre in Bottisham.

Mrs Pollard was born in Cropley Grove, near Newmarket, and was a carer at a private children's home before her father bought the pub.

As well as her work at The White Hart, Mrs Pollard also spent some of her spare time volunteering for the Mothers' Union Christian organisation.

She had three daughters, two of which have died. She also had three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter, Ella.

Mrs Pollard's daughter, Olga Sargent, said: "She has had a very happy life in Soham - she knew everybody and has had many friends."

She said the party would be attended by 14 of Mrs Pollard's closest friends and relatives.
