It may not have been the question uppermost on their minds but pupils from a Soham primary school got an answer to it anyway.
MP Lucy Frazer had invited Year 5 pupils from St Andrew’s School, Soham, to spend a day at the House of Commons as part of a programme that encourages MPs to connect with young people.
“I joined them to discuss what it is like to be an MP,” said Ms Frazer, now in a fourth year representing the SE Cambs constituency and recently promoted to a ministerial post in the justice department.
“I hope the day out helped the pupils understand more about politics and the role of an MP,” she said.
Ms Frazer said the pupils were among other groups who have been invited for a tour of the Palace of Westminster and to the Parliamentary Education Centre.
This is the centre set up to “inspire and connect young people with Parliament and democracy”.
Visitors can, amongst many other activities, enjoy virtual recreations of the House of Commons and the House of Lords.
