The pond, in Qua Fen Common, had dried up over the hot summer and revealed the piles of rubbish that had been discarded over the years, including all manner of building materials, tyres and household waste.

Soham Town Council took the opportunity to call in contractors and, at the weekend, several tonnes of mud, weed and waste was removed, ready for the pond to be refilled with water again.

Clerk of Soham Town Council, David Giles, said: “With all the rain we had at the weekend, it is hoped that the pond will fill up again quickly.”
