SOHAM fundraiser Callum Fairhurst has been honoured for his charity work - with a spot on the side of a London bus.
The 14-year-old will form the centrepiece of a new campaign to highlight the good work that young people do and is set to have his story and picture displayed on the number 23 bus, which runs across the heart of the capital.
The initiative is part of the Who Inspires You? campaign, which will see Callum and other winners of the Diana Award given a space on the side of buses in order to raise the profile of young people.
The Soham Village College student met with Minister for Children and Families Tim Loughton at the Houses of Parliament on December 12, to officially launch the campaign.
Callum has raised more than £50,000 for charities and is the face of the Diana Champion Fundraiser award, he said: “I am really looking forward to seeing a huge picture of me on one of London’s busiest bus routes. It’s not just me there are thousands of young people out there who give back to their communities and they need to be recognised too.”
Tim Loughton MP added: “I am always humbled to meet exceptional young people who go the extra mile and give back to their communities. The young people honoured with the Diana Award should be proud of their achievements. They are an inspiration to others to get involved and make a difference.”
The Diana Award is presented to young people who are committed to taking social action, whether they work as volunteers, fundraisers, campaigners or carers or anyone who improves our community.
Maggie Turner OBE and chief executive of the Diana Award, said: “The award holders on the buses are just five of the 36,000 young people who are committed to improving our communities. By highlighting their stories we want the award to reach all the young people who are making an outstanding difference. ”
