Cambridgeshire County Council has approved plans to place double yellow lines at a junction in Soham near the town centre to improve safety.
The proposed ‘no waiting at any time’ at the junction of Ten Bell Lane and Pratt Street was approved at a meeting on Tuesday, July 24.
The plans come after “long-standing issues” of vehicles parking close to the junction restricting visibility and making it difficult for other road users to make a safe exit.
Residents requested the double yellow lines were of “sufficient distance” around the road to ensure drivers have safe and adequate visibility.
A council official said: “The proposed double yellow lines were put forward as part of a local highways improvement initiative and are being partly funded by the residents of Ten Bell Lane.
“These restrictions have been requested for road safety reasons, to preserve visibility for vehicles exiting Ten Bell Lane.
“I appreciate that problems with vehicles parking close to the junction may have worsened recently, however Rule 243 of the Highway Code states that vehicles should not stop or park opposite or within 10 meter of a junction, except in an authorised parking space.
“By installing double yellow lines Cambridgeshire County Council is reinforcing this fact.”
