THE manager of an East Cambs care home that looks after youngsters with serious brain injuries faces being struck off the nursing register after she admitted stealing petty cash.
The Nursing and Midwifery Council panel heard last week that on January 2 last year Liza Liwang took £670 from the petty cash tin at the Eden View Care Home, Bottisham. She did so without permission and sent the money to her family.
Barchester Healthcare discovered the missing money during a routine audit and when Ms Liwag was questioned she eventually admitted taking it without authorisation.
Ms Liwag was sacked for gross misconduct 10 days later.
The panel, meeting in London last week, recommended that she be struck off the nursing register.
In its ruling, the panel said: “Given the serious nature of the misconduct and Ms Liwag’s total lack of engagement, the panel concluded that a suspension order is not sufficient.”
They concluded that it was vital “to uphold standards and maintain public confidence in the nursing profession”.
Her actions were “fundamentally incompatible” with allowing her to remain on the register.
Ms Liwag did not attend the hearing and offered no defence. She has a month to appeal the verdict.
