ON June 11, the bowls club held its annual charity match. The event was organised by competition secretary Ann Gibbs, with 14 teams of triples playing each other in a round- robin format. In the final, John Brannan, Phillip Challis and David Heading - winners from group one - played Bill Reeve, Bert Howe, Nigel Driver - the winners of group two - resulting in a win for John Brannan's team. Winner of the bottle of whisky in the spider was Mark Denny. A salad lunch was provided by Shirley Bavester.
During the afternoon, there was an excellent raffle and tea and cakes were served. Captain Roger Bayes thanked everyone who had taken part, Shirley for providing the lunch, and everyone who had donated prizes for the raffle. The prizes for the competition were presented by the President Ken Chapman. This year's chosen charity was the Breast Cancer Appeal and the total raised from events organised at the Ross Peers Sport Centre, Terry Galley's quiz, donations and the bowls club afternoon raised £1,200.
