A VICTORIAN day in Littleport has raised £100 for the village's archive society.

The Littleport Society organised the event to raise money for a new heritage museum to house the village's archive collection, which now amounts to more than 2,000 photos and other artefacts and documents.

Visitors came from all over the East Anglian region to see the collection of photographs dating from 1880 showing views of local people in Victorian costume. A collection of Victorian clothes, belong to a society member, were also on display.

Members of the March Veteran & Vintage Cycle Club, dressed in period costume, and the Littleport Family Tree Team also attended.

"It was absolutely fantastic," said society member Des Smith.

"It couldn't believe it when we got there and saw people queuing outside to get in. It is definitely the most successful event we have held."

Mr Smith said £220-worth of local history books were sold on day.

The society has more events planned for the new year.
