Ely Cathedral's director of music, Paul Trepte, agreed to have his beard shaved in aid of the building's music appeal. The event, held on the East Green of the Cathedral on Easter Sunday at noon, was witnessed by many interested onlookers, especially the Choristers of Ely Cathedral who marched Mr Trepte from the safety of his home onto the green for the ceremony.
The shave, was carried out by Andrew Everitt of Jim Dandy salon in Market Street in Ely. The result was a great surprise to Sally Trepte who had never seen her husband without a beard.
The event raised more than £380.00 for the appeal.
