A scout group leader from Doddington has taken a campaign for much-needed repair funds to new heights after she jumped from a plane at 13,000 feet.

In November last year, the 1st Doddington Scout Group decided to launch a campaign to raise money for hall repairs and new equipment.

Alys Turner, Beaver Scout leader, self-funded a tandem sky dive at the North London Skydiving Centre near the Skylark Garden Centre.

She said: “My daughter has been a part of the Scout Group over five years and she has enjoyed lots of new adventures, challenges, learned new skills, and had loads of fun, so it is time for me to give something back.”

Ms Turner setup an online fundraising page for her sky dive that took place on Saturday, September 29 and has since raised £880, smashing her £500 target.

She added: “I was nervous, especially when I was up there. But it was an amazing experience and it’s something that I would like to do again.”

With all of the scouts’ fundraising efforts put together, the group has raised around £3,800 of the £25,000 needed for repairs and refurbishments.

The group say they will be applying for grant funding to help cover the costs. “Work such as roof insulation, a boiler replacement and a new kitchen is a priory,” Ms Turner added.
