A daredevil grandmother from Little Downham who leapt out of a plane to raise money for Alzheimer’s UK has raised the single largest amount from a skydive this year.

80-year-old Margaret Missin celebrated her 80th birthday last month by taking part in a sponsored skydive at Block Fen with her granddaughter, Sophie.

She originally aimed to raise £1,000 for Alzheimer’s Research UK as her husband, Brian, suffers from the condition, but smashed her target by raising an impressive £4,071.81 - the largest donation the charity has seen from a skydive in the east so far in 2016.

Mrs Missin and Sophie donated the proceeds of their bravery to Alzheimer’s UK fundraising officer, Jessica Hiscocks, today (Thursday July 7), and Jessica says that the duo’s efforts will go a long way to help fund research into the disease.

“I said to Margaret and Sophie that this is the largest donation we’ve received from a skydive so far this year,” she said. “I also told them that every £20 raised equates to an hour of research, meaning that they have funded over 200 hours of research, which is absolutely fantastic.”
