Police have been called to six crashes across East Cambridgeshire in the last 24 hours – including a collision on the A10 near Stretham where a car had to be recovered from a water-filled ditch.
Officers from the Roads Policing Unit attended the A10 near Stretham yesterday (Sunday December 17) to deal with a two-vehicle collision.
“The two vehicles, a Kia Cee’d and a Mercedes 350, collided, leaving the Kia likely to be written off with extensive front end damage,” said police.
“The Mercedes had to be recovered from a water filled ditch. This vehicle may also be a total loss.
“Although all of the persons involved were shaken by the incident, thankfully everyone walked away without substantial immediate injuries.”
One driver has been reported for the question of considering the offence of driving without due care.
The incident was one of six road traffic collisions that police in East Cambridgeshire have had to respond to in the last twenty-four hours.
“As temperatures in the region continue to fluctuate from mild to freezing, roads remain wet and greasy, and driving conditions are less than ideal,” added the police spokesman.
Sergeant Phil Priestley said: “We remind everyone that - even in bad conditions - it remains your responsibility to show due care and adjust your driving to suit the weather and the state of the roads.
“Please slow down when driving on wet or icy roads, always wear your seatbelt, and resist the temptation of answering or using a mobile phone.”
