SE Cambs MP Sir Jim Paice and conservative parliamentary candidate Lucy Frazer visited the newly opened Shade Primary School in Soham.
Head teacher Lisa Gregory showed the duo around the new premises into which the pupils moved earlier this year.
Prior to the move they had been using temporary facilities at the Weatheralls School. Sir Jim and Lucy watched the children learn to write their names before enjoying a lunch of fish, chips and peas.
Sir Jim said, “Every year I hear from parents devastated that their children have missed out on primary school place at their local school and so I am delighted that after a number of years of careful planning we now have a great new additional primary school in Soham and will soon have another in Ely as well.”
Lucy Frazer added: “We need to ensure that Cambridgeshire gets its fair share of funding for education. That is something I will be working hard on in the coming months.”
