ANGRY that a shop worker refused to sell him a bottle of brandy, drunken David Leadbeater kicked a door and smashed a pane of glass.
Leadbeater went into the One Stop store in Littleport to buy the alcohol on a Friday afternoon - but he was unable to show any ID and his request was turned down.
“He was drunk and was slurring his words,” Ely magistrates heard from prosecutor Laura Mardell. “At first he was calm and polite, but when he left, he kicked the door, causing a glass panel in it to break.”
Leadbeater, 20, of Lynn Road, Chettisham, admitted causing criminal damage. But he said the 100 worth of damage had been caused recklessly rather than intentionally.
“It was not a vicious attack, I just kicked the door as I walked out, but I do accept responsibilty,” he told the court.
Magistrates ordered Leadbeater to pay 100 compensation for the damage, along with a 100 fine and 15 surcharge.
