The Shoe Tree on Market Street in Ely launches its shoe recycling scheme on Saturday.
From September 22-29, shoppers can trade in a pair of old shoes in and receive £5 off the cost of a replacement pair purchased from The Shoe Tree's autumn and winter collection of boots, shoes, trainers and wellingtons.
Shoe Tree owner Hazel Morrison says: "The shoes don't have to have been bought from us, or even be children's shoes. Adults can bring in their old footwear too, and any discarded pair can then be reused to help charities here and abroad. Any additional pairs of unwanted shoes will also be welcome, although the discount will only apply once per transaction."
Donated shoes are sorted and sold on at low cost to Eastern European and Third World countries where they are repaired or refurbished. The shoes will then be sold at affordable prices to those who otherwise would have to go without adequate footwear.
Money made from the initial sale goes to the Variety Club of Great Britain, which gives new opportunities to thousands of sick, disabled and disadvantaged children every year.
INFO: The Shoe Tree's trade in offer ends on September 29, but the facility for shoe recycling will remain a permanent fixture at the store.
