SOHAM sharp-shooter Taylor Hedgecock was awarded the title of Young Shot of the Year at the clay Pigeon Shooting Association’s annual awards ceremony held in Swindon at the weekend.
Taylor, 14, started shooting at eight years old when his grandfather bought him his first shotgun, and hasn’t looked back since. With a number of titles already to his name, Taylor excelled himself in 2012, by winning the Colts title in both the British Sporting and the World Sporting.
At the awards ceremony, Soham Village College pupil Taylor said: “I am really looking forward to 2013 and hope to retain some of my titles, while setting my sights on qualifying for the England Junior team, even though I am still a Colt.”
Inspired by the exploits of British shooters at the London 2012 games, Taylor also hopes to get a place in Team GB in four years time, where he hopes to compete in the double trap discipline.
The youngster trains with renowned coach Philip Thorrold in Diss, Norfolk, and will be looking to force his way into the national team over the coming years as his standard of competition steps up a gear.
