Farewell retirement service for Bishop of Huntingdon David Thomson
The Bishop of Huntingdon David Thomson has retired from his position after ten years.
The Right Reverend Thomson announced he would be stepping down from his post earlier on in the year.
A farewell service of Thanksgiving was held at Ely Cathedral on September 23, which was attended by David and his wife Jean Thomson.
He was consecrated as a bishop by Rowan Williams, Archbishop of Canterbury, in Southwark Cathedral on July 3 2008 and installed as Bishop of Huntingdon in Ely Cathedral on 17 October that year.
During a lengthy vacancy in neighbouring Suffolk’s diocesan from October 20 2013 to May 7 2015, he was also the Acting Bishop of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich.
A large congregation and many visiting dignitaries joined in the send off to the respected and well loved figure.
The church praised David for his support over the past few years and wished him a happy and fulfilling retirement with family in Herefordshire.
