THE sentencing of a drunken burglar who woke a sleeping man as he tried to climb through his bedroom window in the early hours has been adjourned for a further three weeks.

Back in August, Ashley Bowen, 18, of New Barns Avenue, Ely, admitted burglary with intent to steal at Laburnum House in Queen Adelaide on July 6; and interfering with Mercedes car, with intent to steal.

He was due to be sentenced on Thursday - but city magistrates were told that the teenager had failed to meet with the probation officer, so no report was available for the court.

"He could not get into Cambridge, because he had no funds," explained solicitor Adam Haselhurst.

At the first hearing, magistrates were told how Roderick Lockhart had seen Bowen's hand coming through his open bedroom window, and shouted. The teenager had run away, but left a trainer behind.

Bowen had been drinking all night, his solicitor told the court, and he knew his behaviour was unacceptable.
