Lucy Frazer has praised Cambridgeshire’s efforts in rehoming refugees.

The MP for SE Cambridgeshire welcomed Cambridgeshire County Council’s participation in the unaccompanied asylum seekers dispersal scheme – which gives local authorities the power to transfer the responsibility of a child to another local autority – during Home Office Questions yesterday (March 6).

She also praised the city council and East Cambs and South Cambs District Councils for their work in offering homes to 100 refugees, while also asking the Immigration Minister, Robert Goodwill MP, if he agreed that it is important for “every council to do what they can to re-settle refugees” and to “ensure that anybody who comes is properly welcomed and integrated into the local community.”

She said: “It’s so important that when welcoming refugees we do all we can to give them the help they need to live a decent life, fully integrated into our communities.

“Many people have contacted me in offering their assistance and I know how proactive and generous people across Cambridgeshire are when it comes to helping those in need.

“I have no doubt that the refugees that come here will be made to feel very welcome.”
