The Isle of Ely Federation Women’s Institute ventured out of Cambridgeshire earlier this month – all the way to parliament.

The group visited SE Cambridgeshire MP Lucy Frazer at Westminster on 18 September and chatted about a whole host of subjects – including the Burwell Power Station, challenges for local teachers and what it is like to be a member of parliament.

The institute’s usual meetings involve activities including scrabble, bowling, walks and an annual Federation holiday.

It also holds two council meetings a year where it “enjoys excellent, well-known speakers, an update on Federation activities and the opportunity to catch up with WI friends.”

A spokesman said: “Fun and friendship are two words that occur frequently when members are asked why they joined our fantastic organisation. Just contact our office in March and talk to Su our secretary and she will be able to provide you with all the information you need to become an Isle of Ely WI member.”
