Eight schools across the region travelled to King’s Ely Junior on Thursday (May 5) to take part in the school’s annual Wind Band Day.
The young musicians, who came from St Margaret’s, St Cedd’s, St Faith’s, Glebe House, Ely St John’s and The Leys, brought a variety of instruments including flutes, oboes, clarinets, cornets, saxophones, trumpets and trombones.
The pupils were given three pieces to perform in a short concert at the end of the day, which they had to learn from scratch. They spent the day rehearsing in King’s Ely’s Gibson Music School before joining together for the concert in the Hayward Theatre, which was enjoyed by parents and teachers from the schools that took part.
Neil Porter-Thaw, director of music at King’s Ely Junior, said: “Everyone worked extremely hard and the audience was rewarded with some excellent performances of a traditional march, an Arabian dance and the theme tunes from Star Wars and Jurassic Park.”
