SCHOOLS and roads around Ely have avoided any major disruption despite morning deluges of sleet and snow.

Forecasters had warned of adverse weather throughout the morning causing similar problems to those seen earlier in the week but services across the Ely area appear to have avoided the worst.

All of the schools that had been closed yesterday (Wednesday) have now re-opened and travel on the roads has returned to normal on the A10, albeit with a warning to drive carefully from Cambridgeshire Police.

The Harbour School in Wilburton is asking its pupils not to attend, but all other East Cambs primary and secondary schools are open.

Trains into Cambridge and London have also resumed a full service.

Despite escaping the worst of it this morning warnings are still in place for this evening as the snow makes way for a widespread frost which could make for treacherous driving conditions on the way home.
