Seven children and two adults had a lucky escape when a minibus they were travelling in had a tyre blow out, left the road, and ended up in a Fenland ditch.

The bus was taking pupils to the Meadowgate Academy at Wisbech when it came to grief on the A605 on the A605 near Goosetree, March.

Kelly Stainier of Coates, the mother of two of the pupils, said both were taken to hospital suffering whiplash and bruising but released after treatment.

Mrs Stainier said a passing lorry driver stopped, called for help, and worked to release the passengers from the mini bus.

She said he even gave her son a sleeping bag to keep him warm until the emergency services arrived.

“It is very fortunate no one was seriously injured,” she said.

However her daughter Ella, an accomplished equestrian vaulter, has been forced to postpone her weekend activities while she recovers at home.

She recently claimed second place in a national equestrian vaulting competition.

Ella Marie, who has Type 1 diabetes, tried equestrian vaulting after years of saying she wanted to do gymnastics on a horse.
