St Andrew’s School took delivery of 500 oranges this week so every pupil could take home a Christingle.
The Soham school was awash with festive feeling as pupils studded their creations with candles and tied them up with red ribbon – as a symbol of the earth and the blood of Jesus Christ.
The pupils were told about the history of the Christingle in a special assembly before helping to light the candles on their creations.
The oranges were supplied by Tesco, in Ely, and Asda, in Soham.
A spokesman for the school said: “The pupils has a wonderful time making their Christingles. They often see them when they have services in the church but to be able to make their own was quite special.”
