A housing association has promised to carry out regular cleaning at an Ely flats complex following complaints from residents.

Gaz Swarbrick and his partner Rose were delighted after Sanctuary Housing promised to act over their complaints about the state of the communal areas outside their flat in Abbott’s Way.

Mr Swarbrick said: “We have made so many complaints, they just didn’t seem to be taking us seriously, so it is brilliant they are now going to clean the mess. We didn’t like contacted the Standard, but we just didn’t know what else to do. But it appears to have worked.”

A Sanctuary spokesman said: “We have arranged for the staircase and hallway to be cleaned on Tuesday (September 1) and are very sorry that we weren’t able to carry out the work at an earlier date. We’ve also arranged to have the area cleaned fortnightly in future and we will make sure all residents are informed of this.”
