Ely's Samantha Savage admits she "isn't much of a runner" but hopes plenty of training and hard work will pay off when she takes on the London Marathon on April 26.

Samantha, 36, is training four times a week in preparation for her first marathon, and she is hoping to raise thousands of pounds for Motor Neurone Disease.

She chose the charity in memory of her father, John Burford, who died from the disease in 2010.

She said: “I enjoy fitness and keeping fit but im not much of a runner really so it’s going to be quite a challenge. The training is going well and I’m aiming to finish the marathon in about five-and-a-half hours but I want to make sure that I enjoy it.

“I lost my fantastic dad to motor neurone disease in 2010 and after seeing three of my friends complete the London Marathon in 2014 I was inspired to do the same and raise as much money as I can for this wicked disease.

“At present this disease does not have a cure so I am desperate to do all I can to help them find one.”

Samantha has set herself a fund-raising target of £1,500. To donate, visit www.justgiving.com/Samantha-Savage
