MORE than 50 people attended the carol service and Christmas tea at the City Road Salvation Army headquarters in Littleport on Sunday. The singers were assisted by Michael Padgett on the drums, Barbara Brown on the piano and Ian Caddy in the tenor section. Solos were sung by Olive Page, Brenda Rudderham and Helene Goodge.

Toys donated by customers of ASDA and Superdrug and other local people were blessed before being wrapped for distribution to local families who make be struggling this Christmas due to health problems. The singers are leading a carol service at Laburnum Lodge on Tuesday. Meetings on Christmas Eve are at 11am and 3pm - and tea and mince pies will be shared after the afternoon Christmas Service.

"We are very grateful for the support of the Ely Standard, BBC Radio Cambridgeshire, Ely Superdrug and Wisbech ASDA in supporting our appeal for gifts for the needy this year, said Major John Boyd, commanding officer for the Littleport Salvation Army Corps.
