PUPILS from seven primary schools in the Ely area were invited to learn more about safety at Ely Fire Station.

Across the course of five days, more than 300 children from primary schools in Ely, Soham, Littleport, Sutton and Haddenham, found out about everything from fire safety to trading standards.

The project called Fire Safety Zone was set up to improve the youngsters' understanding of how to deal with different fire situations, and included a first aid demonstration from the Ely St John Ambulance Brigade.

Children walked through a circuit of stations, with each one teaching them something different about being safe. The road safety station taught them the value of seatbelts, and trading standards taught them what they can and cannot buy.
