Russian phrases, German delicacies and Hindi dance moves were some of the things learnt by students during King’s Ely International Week.

The annual event, now in its third year, sees students enjoying activities themed around different cultures and languages.

Activities this year included German cookery demonstrations, origami sessions, French baking, Spanish paella workshops and International Day on the Thursday, which saw King’s Ely international students teaching Year 9 pupils facts and figures about their countries.

All of the lessons were led by King’s Ely International students, and languages and cultures explored included Hindi, German, Italian, Japanese, Russian, Cantonese, Mandarin and Thai.

The event ended with musical and dance performances by King’s Ely International students, including singing by Jacky Chow, a Russian performance by Maya Deulina and a traditional Indian dance by Arshdeep Hayer.

King’s Ely Junior students also got involved with the International Week celebrations this year. Pupils in Queen Philippa were given a presentation on Hong Kong by sisters Emily and Olivia during their house assembly, which was followed by some Chinese dancing. Year 7 students also created presentations about their families in Spanish and pupil Maya received a prize for her work.
