A MAJOR route into Ely was closed for more than three hours on Monday evening following a three-vehicle smash.

Lynn Road was closed at the roundabout with Cam Drive from about 3.15pm after three vehicles collided on the busy arterial route.

Police, fire and ambulance crews were quickly on scene, with one motorist having to be freed by rescue crews after becoming trapped in a car.

One person was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge with what police described as minor injuries. Two other people are believed to have suffered slight injuries but were treated at the scene.

Recovery teams were called in to clear the road shortly after 5pm with police finally reopened the route to traffic at about 6.30pm.
