The ambulance landed during the Wisbech 1st v Newmarket RUFC game at Harecroft Road.

Newmarket RUFC said: “In what is turning out to be a torrid season #nrufc1st lost to Wisbech 73-10.

“Disappointing yes, but what is really important is we can report that Pete Boyle - Mr Dependable - is okay after being knocked unconscious and having the air ambulance called.

“The club salutes the team that turned out to ensure that Newmarket met its commitment.

“There were numerous damaged bodies along the way - Jonny and Max to name but a few.

“And then, to cap it all, that awful journey back from Wisbech. To the players who turned out, thank you.”
