THE club held its annual cheese and wine luncheon in the grounds of the Sue Ryder Care Home in Ely. The cool weather did not deter the 80 or so people attending who enjoyed the usual delights of this annual event.

This year, the charity to benefit from the event is Mercy Ships, which is an organisation raising money for running hospital ships, staffed by volunteer doctors and nurses.

There was a good choice of cheese and wine and the raffle prizes were a most popular source of excitement, many of them kindly donated by local businesses. First prize was a lunch for two with wine at the Boathouse Restaurant, on the waterfront at Ely. Others included a garden fork and pot plants from the Twentypence Nursery at Wilburton.

The total raised from the raffle was £270. Overall, the success of this popular Rotary event means that the charity will receive direct help with maintaining the ships and keeping this important world service in operation.
