POLICE in Ely are appealing for witnesses to two robberies in which youngsters had mobile phones stolen.

Det Cons John Yore says it is not clear whether the two incidents are linked but he would like anyone with information about either incident to contact him.

The first robbery happened on October 30 in an alleyway in Tower Court at the Witchford Road end of Ely. A 17-year-old man was walking along the alleyway at 10.50pm when a gang of youths confronted him and stole his mobile phone and some papers. The only description is that one of the gang was wearing a black hooded top and another gang member a white hooded top.

The second incident took place in Witchford on November 16, again in an alleyway, at the rear of Manor Close near to the Common Road play area. An 11-year-old boy was walking down the alleyway at 4.40pm when he was jumped by a man wearing a black hooded top. The boy was thrown into some bushes and had his mobile phone stolen. The thief is described as 6ft tall.
