REGINALD Hare of High Barns, Ely, died on January 9, he was aged 84.

Reg was born at Willow Drove, Littleport, where he lived for 65 years before moving to Ely.

During the Second World War, he served in the RAF, stationed mainly in India. For most of his life Reg worked in the building trade for Law Brothers.

He met Ruby in 1947 and they married two years later at Littleport Methodist Chapel. Reg was a devoted family man; they had three daughters and six grandchildren. His children have fond memories of him tending his garden; he enjoyed growing the family vegetables.

An accident forced Reg to take lighter work as a school caretaker; he enjoyed his work, first looking after Littleport Primary School and later the village college.

Retirement gave Reg more time to indulge in his favourite pastime, bowls, which he played at county level for both Littleport and Ely Bowls Club.

Reg died suddenly but peacefully at his daughter's home in Oxford.

He will be greatly missed by his wife Ruby, his daughters Cynthia and Shirley and grandchildren Robert, Claire, James and Christopher.

A service of thanks-giving was held in St George's Church, Littleport on January 19.
