ELY teenager Reggie Chamberlain-King has been offered an opportunity to travel to Germany to carry out research work on a project.

Reggie, 16, currently studying GCSEs at the King's School, Ely will spend two weeks in the country this autumn comparing the teaching of history in German and English schools.

The opportunity came from the British Council which gives UK students the opportunity to visit schools overseas.

Reggie will spend two weeks doing his research at King's partner school, Liebfrauenschule Mülhausen near Kempen which is twinned with Ely.

He will stay with a host family, observe and taken part in lessons, conduct surveys and interviews with students and teachers.

Reggie will be mentored by Dr Theo Rüttgen, who teaches history and English at the Kempen school. Dr Ruttgen will help him with his project as well as making sure he has an enjoyable time in Germany.

Earlier this year Reggie was presented with the first prize in a nationwide creative writing competition for over-15s organised by the Holocaust Education Trust.

He wrote a poem on the theme of this year's Holocaust Memorial Day, 'The Dignity of Difference'. The competition was judged by a panel of writers, political figures and Holocaust survivors.

Reggie won £200 and an additional £1,000 for the school.
