Organiser Peggy Gibbon had written to Buckingham Palace informing the Queen about the event and inviting her along. It was not totally unexpected that her majesty could not make it, but Peggy was thrilled to receive a letter from one of her ladies-in-waiting at Buckingham Palace thanking the club for its invitation and wishing the event every success.
Our picture shows Peggy Gibbon of the club with the letter.
