THE residents of Cambridgeshire have topped a national league table for waste recycling targets.
A report released by the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, says county recycles more than 37 per cent of its rubbish, compared to a national average of 23 per cent.
County councillor John Reynolds, cabinet member for environment and community services, said: "It is clear from our postbag that the people of Cambridgeshire are keen recyclers and it is for this reason that we are leading the way in the UK. Last year, the county council had to spend more than £7.3 million dumping waste in landfills, which is why recycling is so important.
