Record-breaking pub-crawler Cathy Price stopped off in East Cambridgeshire this weekend on her quest to visit every Red Lion public house in the country.

The mother of one has spent nearly a two-and-a-half years journeying the length and breadth of Britain in her quest to visit every pub known as the Red Lion.

And, on Saturday and Sunday, she stopped off in Stretham and Soham to quaff her favoured half-pint of ale on the Cambridgeshire leg of her journey.

Cathy, 54, from Lancashire, has visited more than 400 Red Lions so far clocking up more than 10,000 miles. There are 620 Red Lions in the country.

When Cathy first started her adventure, after she popped into the Red Lion pub in Hawkeshead in the Lake District, in 2011, there were 724. The economic downturn and the changing drinking habits of the public had been responsible for the drop.

She decided to take on the challenge after reading a plaque that declared the Red Lion the most common pub name in the UK.

Cathy, a personal trainer, gets a picture of every pub she has visited and has amassed a large collection of beer mats, glasses and other memorabilia on her journey.

Cathy’s furthest trip to date has seen her travel from her home in Preston to the Red Lion in Penzance, Cornwall - a 750-mile round trip.
