THE 34th annual Ely and District Model Railway Club show was a hit with collectors and enthusiasts once again this year, with more than 1,000 people turning out.
The dozens of model railways, trade stands and exhibitions kept visitors, who came from as far away as Birmingham and Manchester, enthralled throughout the day and there was even a working train line at the show for children to catch a ride on.
The event took place on Saturday at Ely College, on Downham Road, and was the culmination of a full year’s work by the club’s organising team.
Club member Andrew Wilkinson said: “The event went really well, it was one of the most successful events we have had in recent years.
“500 people came through the door in the first hour and in total we had about 1,000 people came down during the day so it was excellent day for visitors and families.”
A competition to win £150 worth of model train kit courtesy of Ely’s City Cycle Centre was won by the Fisher family Liz, Andrew, Bethia, Joel, Toby, Elliot and Felix.
