A pocket watch made in Ely, described as “highly unusual” by experts, sold for more than double its estimate at auction.
The silver watch was made by Fillinger and Co, in Ely, and was expected to fetch £125 when it went under the hammer at Lockdales, in Suffolk, last Wednesday.
However, the silver ‘pair cased’ watch, which has a dial that is enamelled with a rural ploughing scene, eventually sold for £290 to a private buyer.
